Artur gave an IChemE webinar on digitizing P&IDs with computer vision
On 19 November 2024, Artur gave the IChemE webinar "Digitisation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams using Computer Vision", hosted by the IChemE Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) Special Interest Group.
In the webinar, Artur presented how our group uses deep learning-based computer vision to recognize symbols, lines, text and tables on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and how the results are translated into machine-readable smart P&ID formats such as DEXPI. The webinar was connected to the 2024 IChemE Senior Moulton Medal, which was awarded for our paper on flowsheet digitization.
Digitized engineering documents are the basis for generative AI tools in process engineering, such as automatic error detection in P&IDs and the autocompletion of P&IDs. The research has since been transferred into the software DigiCo.
A recording of the webinar is available to IChemE members on the IChemE event page.
