Artur receives the AIChE CAST W. David Smith, Jr. Graduate Publication Award

Artur received the 2024 W. David Smith, Jr. Graduate Publication Award of the Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

The award recognizes an outstanding paper on chemical engineering computing and systems technology that is based on research carried out during the author's graduate studies. Artur received it for the paper Deterministic global optimization with Gaussian processes embedded (A. M. Schweidtmann, D. Bongartz, D. Grothe, T. Kerkenhoff, X. Lin, J. Najman, A. Mitsos), published in Mathematical Programming Computation in 2021. The work was part of his PhD research at RWTH Aachen University with Prof. Alexander Mitsos.

The paper shows how trained Gaussian process models can be embedded in deterministic global optimization problems using a reduced-space formulation. The methods are available in the open-source software MeLOn.
