Delft University of Technology

Ulderico Di Caprio joined the Process Intelligence Research group in January 2026 as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow. He obtained his PhD at KU Leuven and continued there as a research associate, working on the development and automation of hybrid models for chemical processes, with applications in CO₂ capture and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and on integrating thermodynamic and physical-chemistry knowledge into machine learning models for the design of more sustainable chemical mixtures.

In his MSCA project CoAUTHOR (COntext-informed AUtomaTic cHemical prOcess geneRation), he aims to improve the efficiency and resilience of chemical and pharmaceutical processes by designing new systems or retrofitting existing ones with machine learning. The project uses context-aware reinforcement learning that combines physical-chemistry information, expert knowledge, and data-driven methods.

Since August 2026, Ulderico has been on a CoAUTHOR secondment as a guest researcher in the Energy and Process Systems Engineering group of Prof. André Bardow at ETH Zürich. He also leads the Early Career Programme of the EFCE Section on AI for Chemical Engineering (AI4CE).
