Guilherme de Oliveira Mendes Ohira is a visiting PhD researcher from the Universidade de São Paulo. His exchange project focuses on machine learning-augmented optimization frameworks for computational strain design. His PhD research integrates metabolic engineering and process systems engineering by identifying economically optimal bioprocess configurations for genetically engineered microorganisms. He combines synthetic data, machine learning, and evolutionary optimization, and is particularly interested in hybrid modeling frameworks that improve model fidelity while remaining computationally tractable.
